About This Quote

My mom said I was an escapist at heart.... that I preferred imaginary worlds to the real one. This was my first taste of what escapism is. My mom always told me to look for the bright side of things, but I would choose the dark side to escape from reality.

She wanted me to be happy so she would try to bring out the best in me, and sometimes she succeeded and sometimes she didn’t, but for the most part I was a happy kid. Then she got sick, and her illness began to take over my life. As time went on, my dad got sick too and we had to make some tough decisions about how we were going to handle it as a family.

It wasn’t as easy as it sounds. Going through all of that helped me understand that there is more than one way of looking at things and not everyone has the same perspective as you do.
